Larian Studios Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The anticipation surrounding the recent awards show was significant, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team is likely designing a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
